The President assents to a bill increasing the number of Court of Appeal and Supreme Court Justices.
His Excellency the President of Uganda on May 1, 2011 assented to The Judicature (Amendment) Act of 2007 increasing the number of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Justices. While the Supreme Court number has increased from Seven to Eleven Justices including the chief Justice, the justices in the court of appeal have been ncreased from nine (09) to Fifteen (15) includin the Deputy cheif Justice. The expanded bench in the two courts especially in the Court of Appeal will enable the court to deal with enduring backlog and process appeals expeditiously. The sector is optimistic that the President will appoint the Judicial Service Commission to make the appointments to the two courts.
