Adoption of children

[a] LAW -Adoption of Children Act, Chapter 216

[b] PROCEDURE -Any person desirous of being authorised to adopt an infant makes an application to the High Court.

[c] -The High Court is the one to make the Order after being satisfied with compliance of the legal requirements.

[d] EFFECT OF ADOPTION ORDER

All rights of the parent/s or guardian of adopted child in relation to

the future of the child shall be extinguished and shall vest in and be

exercised by the adopter as though the child was born by the adopter.

[e] ROLE OF REGISTRAR GENERAL

[i] The Registrar General of Births and Deaths keeps the Register of adopted children.

[ii] The Adoption Order by the High Court directs the Registrar General to make the proper entries in the Adopted Children Register.
