Project Background
The ministry of Justice and constitutional affairs is a government ministry vested with the role of ensuring justice to all its citizens.
The ministry ahs for some good time been running internet wirelessly across the entire building, this has proved to be unreliable as much of the time, there are signal interferences from various barriers and natural interferences such as rain, this has been a source of concern on the reliability of internet and has always culminated into constant complaints from the ministry employees
Overtime, the ministry has realized the importance of ICT and its applications for the proper execution of its duties in ensuring its mandate. It is therefore on this background that it was thought necessary to have Wired LAN designed and implemented in the ministry. The ministry offices are traditionally housed on the seven floors of the queen’s chambers with each floor being occupied by a department.
The LAN will enable intercommunication among the various departments effectively and efficiently, but most importantly, reliably with minimal interference as opposed t the wireless infrastructure that is currently running in the ministry for internet sharing and distribution.
Objectives
The overall objective is to have a more reliable and efficient Local Area Network infrastructure designed and deployed to facilitate the proper and real-time information creation and sharing within and without the ministry.
Specific objectives
i. Conduct a site survey for the Ministry LAN layout on all the floors and come up with draft deployment designs
ii. Roll out a LAN with up-to-date technology with features of scalability to allow for further expansion and development within the ministry.
Scope of the project The project will cover the entire office space of the ministry of justice and constitutional affairs that will be interlinked with fiber to allow for better information flow and bandwidth optimization. It will take into consideration, all the network infrastructure needs of the ministry ranging from the cabling to the server configurations and installations of air conditioning systems within the server rooms. The infrastructure shall be subjected to testing before being handed over to the project manager for the ministry and proper naming and labeling standards are to be followed doing the project implementation.
A user manual shall have to be prepared and delivered along with the project at its hand over. There shall be training of the ministry staff on the adoption and usage of the new LAN and a wrap up of the basic security measures to be done during the training sessions.
